The root chakra—called Muladhara—is considered the first of the body’s main energy centers in traditions like Hinduism and Yoga.

Whether you view chakras as literal energy centers or just a psychological framework, the root chakra maps cleanly onto something real: your baseline sense of safety.

If that foundation is shaky—money stress, unstable environment, poor health—everything else (focus, relationships, confidence) gets harder.

Fixing “root chakra issues” in real life usually means addressing those fundamentals, not just meditating about them.

Here are some practical approaches to nurturing your Root.

Physical Exercises:

1. Grounding Walk: Go for a walk in nature, preferably barefoot on grass, sand, or dirt. Focus on feeling the connection between your feet and the earth.

2. Tree Pose (Vrksasana): Stand tall with one foot rooted firmly into the ground, the other foot placed on your inner thigh or calf. Bring your hands together in prayer at your heart. Hold and breathe deeply.

3. Squats: Perform a series of deep squats, focusing on feeling grounded and strong in your lower body.

 Breathing Exercises:

4. Deep Belly Breathing: Sit or lie down comfortably. Place your hands on your lower abdomen and take deep breaths, feeling your belly rise and fall with each inhale and exhale.

5. Root Lock (Mula Bandha): While sitting comfortably, contract the muscles of your pelvic floor (as if stopping the flow of urine). Hold for a few seconds, then release. Repeat several times.

 Meditation and Visualization:

6. Root Chakra Meditation: Sit comfortably and close your eyes. Visualize a red glowing sphere at the base of your spine. Imagine it spinning and growing brighter with each breath.

7. Grounding Visualization: Imagine roots growing from the base of your spine or the soles of your feet, extending deep into the earth. Feel the stability and nourishment from the earth.

Affirmations:

8. Daily Affirmations: Repeat affirmations such as “I am grounded and stable,” “I am safe and secure,” and “I trust in the process of life.”

Journaling Prompts:

9. Reflect on Stability: Write about what makes you feel secure and stable in your life. How can you cultivate more of these feelings?

10. Safety and Security: Explore areas in your life where you may feel insecure or unsafe. What steps can you take to address these feelings?

 Lifestyle Practices:

11. Connect with Nature: Spend time outdoors, gardening, or sitting under a tree. Focus on feeling connected to the natural world.

12. Healthy Eating: Incorporate root vegetables like carrots, potatoes, and beets into your diet. These foods are naturally grounding and supportive of the root chakra.

Practicing these exercises regularly can help you maintain a balanced and healthy root chakra.
