Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a brain-based therapy based on the hypothesis that specific eye positions designated as “brainspots” activate and access specific areas of the midbrain that allow for the reprocessing and releasing of core neurophysiological reactions to trauma-related and other psychological experiences.

Quick experiment:

1. Thinks of a generally small challenge/problem/issue you are experiencing-generally something around a 4 or 3 on an emotional or mental impact scale out of 10, with 10 being the worst impact for you and 0 being, no impact at all.

2. Notice where sensations, feelings, or other activations occur in your physical body when you bring this to mind.

3. Turn your head to the left and allow your eyes to land on anything in your field of vision, while keeping your mind on that challenge/problem/issue...notice any changes to the activation in your body.

4. Turn your head to center and allow your eyes to land on anything in your field of vision, while keeping your mind on that challenge/problem/issue...notice any changes to the activation in your body.

5. Turn your head to the right and allow your eyes to land on anything in your field of vision, while keeping your mind on that challenge/problem/issue...notice any changes to the activation in your body.

6. Which area of those 3 fields of vision was more significant in the activations for you around this topic in mind.

Repeat it if needed to re-check for yourself.

Where you decide holds the most activation for you is your "brainspot" visual field currently for that particular topic.

From there, I will assist you in locating the specific brain spot within that area or frame of your visual field to support and guide you through the quiet or talk therapy part of processing the activations of that topic.

You can talk as much or as little as you would like. Some sessions may be very quiet while you internally process, while others may be moments of talking as I help you check in and notice any changes.

You get decide how much you talk?

This can be done for as short as 10 minutes or the entire session and can vary from session to session or topic to topic.

Whether you work with me or someone else for Brainspotting it is important to ensure that person is trained and able to hold emotional space for you to process. That Professional will follow your progress and journey and help you deepen the process, as well as support you back to groundedness when it is time.
